Luminaire Navy Officers by Blazbaros Luminaire Navy Officers by Blazbaros
Commission for ~rcs619

Some concepts for Legacy :D more notably the Luminaire Navy. We have an officer (a senior-grade captain in this case) and an enlisted man (a chief petty officer) in the Luminairan navy. Also note that all Luminaire COs of star ships get yellow berets.

Reminds me of the Honorverse

I noticed that too! I think it's the shoulder-boards and the berets. I particularly like the it's a yellow beret, which (to me anyway) seems like ballsy choice for a uniform designer.

Mostly it was because I wanted a slicker, sleeker-looking sort of uniform that was a little different than the kind of stuff modern militaries use. I did take some inspiration from Manticoran uniforms though, mostly because I liked the look of them. The colors were partly because I just liked the blue, gold and silver combo, and also because I wanted Luminairan naval uniforms to be something other than the black or white most military uniforms tend to be in a lot of a sci-fi. Their ships are kind of like that too, with various stripes and patterns painted on. And yeah, I liked the look of the yellow beret too. Only captains get to wear them though (kind of like the white berets in the Honorverse), everyone else wears blue ones.

I agree with you a commanding officer out in the field would make an easy target for snipers.

To be fair, most navy officers are never going to go out in the field. The only time you're going to get naval officers on the ground during a boarding action, or some sort of assault, is after the ship's marine detachment has already gone in and sorted things out. That's what they get paid for.

Dress uniforms are not worn in combat zones/the field.

That's like complaining about the "scrambled eggs" on real-life Navy hats.

And even in a combat zone, or in the field, the navy guys are only going to be going in after the ship's marine detachment has already done their thing and pacified the area. That's what they're there for.

blazbaros.deviantart.com/art/L… Don't know if you've seen it, but this pic has a member of the Army, Navy and Marines in an example of what their typical combat gear would be. That's a navy Captain in the middle there, hence the gold helmet. Everyone else would have a white helmet. Vac-suits are worn at all times when a ship is at general quarters and/or in combat, since they don't assume it will remain airtight as it takes damage. Can't let a little thing like having no air in a room stop your people from doing their jobs, afterall. The army guy on the left is just in a suit of standard, unpowered  infantry armor, and the marine on the right is in the setting's version of powered armor. Unpowered marine armor is identical to the army's, except for the usual black and red color scheme the marines use.
