Each major capital ship is commanded by a ruthless and cutthroat captain. These are grizzled veterans of a thousand raids, if not more, with a vast knowledge of how to take down and blindside almost any vessel. Aside from showing off their wealth to boast of their status, they keep exotic pets that they have discovered on their journeys. The more strange, outlandish and outright deadly pets, the greater the personal expense must have been to get it.
The pet seen in this image is the Bearded Warblegerf of Kintook II, a little known world near the Nex's nebula. One must brave the proximity to the nebula, lest they incur the wrath of the Nex. Then there's catching the bird itself, which is in itself a perilous task, as they are a symbiotic partner to one of the gargantuan alpha predators of Kintook II, the ten legged, poison gas breathing Lizarliths. The Warblegerf is immune to noxious gases and plucks parasites off of the Lizarlith in return for protection. He attempted to take the Lizarlith too, but since they're nearly a one hundred meters long, there was no way to get it aboard the ship, much less feed and keep it.
