Urth: Ogres

Ogres have a much burlier and heavy-set physique than jotun and are nowhere near as massive, rarely exceeding 6 metres in height. Because of this difference in size, however, they do not suffer the limitations of their larger kin, which allows them to travel further afield. Regardless, their high body heat still gives them a preference for cool climates, and ogres often shave off their hair to allow as much air to skin contact as possible.

Towering over even minotaurs and possessing tremendous strength, ogres are regarded by many races with a mixture of contempt and fear, which is not helped by their usually brutal ways. Straight-forward by nature, they’re not above using force to get what they want, and quite eager to do so if the chance shows itself. They can be as clever as any other race, but their literally slow wits as well as a tendency to choose actions over words only enhances their barbaric image. And most infamously, their ravenous appetites means there’s little they won’t catch and devour; including other races on many regions. All in all, such behavior depends heavily on environmental and social factors, and even the more benevolent individuals hold a pragmatic, rough approach towards the world. It is common to see them on civilized areas as mercenaries, guardians, or even cooks, as unsurprisingly ogres hold an extensive knowledge of the culinary arts.

Ogres accumulate prodigious amounts of fat throughout the year, only to slim down considerably on the lean months. They are intensely fond of chocolate, considering it a gift from the gods only fit for their own consumption; the fact other races regularly indulge on it is a source of much anger among them.

Unlike the other giants, ogres are hermaphroditic and capable of self-fertilization. Younglings are born orally, regurgitated in a thick cocoon of protective mucus. What gender an ogre actually identifies with is entirely their choice, but due to their deep, rumbling voices, it is hard for other races to make the distinction.
